Courting attention

Melbourne-based architectural photographer @mrmagoorie released this photo of Shepparton Law Court on Twitter this week.

What caught his eye was the wrapped layered bands of timber and tiles which represent an abstract tree structure in the main entrance foyer of the court complex.

Now Oddie isn’t encouraging people to go to court for the normal reasons, but why should all the wrongdoers have all the fun.

The court complex has won a number of architecture and design awards and the river red gum inspired timber structure is worth popping in to take a look at.

Oddie’s brain hurts too

Oddie was chatting to someone only last week about high school maths and how it was both understandable and enjoyable up until the point when letters and symbols other than he basics were introduced into equations.

Not long after a friend posted this clock for Oddie’s amusement.

Not funny at all, it makes my brain hurt in ways you can only imagine.

Celebrating the subtlety of our diversity

Newly-minted Mayor of City of Greater Shepparton Shane Sali has been heralded on social media as the first ethnic Albanian Mayor in Australia and New Zealand.

Oddie is pleased the Albanian community is pleased, but in many ways the fact that his background and religion were not a big deal locally says a fair bit about how far our multicultural community has come.

Besides, Dinny Adem, who may be making a comeback via a countback election on July 6, was the first Mayor from our Albanian community.

Cudos to SBS who actually got that right.
