Wetter than usual June in Shepparton

Shepparton had a slightly wetter than usual June this year, while temperatures were close to normal.

A total of 46.4mm of rain fell on the town this month according to the Bureau of Meteorology statistics taken at Shepparton airport.

This is up slightly on the historical June monthly mean of 38.8mm taken from the past 26 years.

The highest daily rainfall in June this year was 10.4mm, recorded in the 24 hours until 9am on June 6.

It is well below the highest daily June rainfall in the town when 32.2mm fell on June 1, 2014.

It also rained more than usual this year, with rain falling on 16 separate days, however only four of these saw more than 3mm.

The historical average number of June rainy days in the past 26 years is 12.2.

The highest ever June monthly rainfall recorded in Shepparton since 1962, saw a massive 140.8mm dumped on the town in 1991.

Daytime temperatures were ever so slightly down on usual this year, with a mean temperature of 13.4ºC, compared to the historical mean of 14.2ºC.

The warmest June day this year saw the mercury rise to 16.8ºC on June 20, while the coldest was 10.6ºC on June 29.

June night-time temperatures were slightly warmer than usual, with a mean of 4.6ºC compared to the historical mean of 3.7ºC of the past 26 years.

The mercury dropped to 0ºC or lower twice for the month, with the chilliest night on June 28 where temperatures dipped to -1.1ºC.

While cold, it is much warmer than the coldest Shepparton June night on record where the temperature dropped to -5.9ºC.

The warmest June night this year was the 10.2ºC recorded on June 21.
