Award recognises respect

Greater Shepparton Secondary College is a proud winner in the 2022 Victorian Education Secretary’s Marrung Awards.

These prestigious awards celebrate best practice in promoting the principles of self-determination and Aboriginal inclusion.

GSSC’s people and physical environment are dedicated to respecting our First Nations people, their connection to Country and their delivery of many thousands of years of education.

Our artwork:

A specially commissioned painting graces the entry to GSSC, produced by Yorta Yorta and Bangerang artists with student input.

Our neighbourhoods:

Biyala, Dharnya and Bayuna buildings are named after the iconic trees that grace our rivers, providing the tools, resources and places of learning that have served generations.

Our learning spaces and ‘yarning circle’:

GSSC has dedicated, culturally safe spaces for delivery of First Nations curriculum, community cultural programs and informal, outdoor class gatherings.

Our people:

Tahlia, Val, Jordon, Tamekah, Jason, Lena and Tom are our Ngarri Ngarri (teaching knowledge) team of Koorie Educators, supporting the learning of our Koorie kids and developing the skills of our Indigenous student leaders.

Our future:

The College will progress and help lead community efforts to celebrate, honour and respect our region’s rich Indigenous history.
